Position Summary

The Community Outreach Manager is responsible for marketing and communications initiatives relating to the hospitality and tourism industry segments.  This person is also responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and retention of partner and sponsorship opportunities that align with Visit Montgomery’s mission and objectives.  A successful candidate will focus on increasing the awareness of and engagement of Visit Montgomery’s activities to industry stakeholders, existing partners, and sponsors.  This person is considered the central liaison between internal departments and appropriate third-party organizations.

  • This person will develop and deploy B2B communications including (but not limited to): face-to-face meetings, direct calling, email newsletters, social media, events, CRM management, online demos, events calendar and webinars.
  • 40% of the position is focused on business development, which includes creating and sustaining partnerships and sponsorship relationships. 40% of the position is devoted to the stakeholder communications and CRM/database management, 10% administrative support to the Director of Marketing and President & CEO, as assigned. And 10% of the position is event planning, tradeshow coordination and other business engagement activities.
  • The ideal candidate is self-starter with a high attention to detail that loves to work in a collaborative team environment. Comfortability in meeting new people and foster business relationships is a key component to the candidate’s success in this role. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, and achieve deadlines is a must.

Essential Functions


  • Manages all partner and sponsorship efforts including retention of partnerships, development of new partners and industry sponsorships and invoicing of partnership dues.
  • Establish and evaluate specific performance indicators both internally and externally to measure and monitor long and short-term goals designed to increase partnerships, shareholder engagement and sponsorship revenue.
  • Plans and conducts industry meeting(s) and site visit(s) with each high-level partner at their respective offices to evaluate partnership and engagement impacts.
  • Serve as the community engagement liaison between the hotels, conference facilities, sports venues surrounding businesses during sports tournaments.
  • Supports sales and marketing team members with partner communications including familiarization (FAM) trip itineraries, client meals and experiences.
  • Serves as lead sponsorship and co-op marketer responsible for closing multiple deals and producing financially measurable results.
  • Support the sales division as the community engagement liaison to assist conference attendees with feeling welcome to Montgomery County.
  • Plan and manage partner events with the support of the sales and marketing team.

Simpleview/CRM Database + Calendar of Events + Website(s)

  • Responsible for maintaining the organization’s CRM Simpleview database and engagement tracking. Completes monthly reports to ensure revenue projections and goals are achieved.
  • Manage the MoCo Eats directory through outreach to restaurants to ensure business information is updated.
  • Manage the industry side of the Tastemakers Trail program. Engage with craft beverage producers and keep them informed of the program.
  • Manage the Visit Montgomery calendar of events—review and approve all event submissions to the website. Respond to inquiries/requests for assistance with the submission process. Serve as the direct liaison with the third-party software, Localist.
  • Serve as the point of contact for partners on accounts/listing modifications and upload of promotions to the website.
  • Serve as the primary lead for Bandwango and keep Visit Montgomery passes up-to-date.

Marketing & Communications

  • Implement a business-to-business communications calendar. Writes copy for industry related blogs, webinars, email newsletters, social media posts and Google Groups. Assists the Director of Marketing and President/CEO with messaging for presentations and board reports.
  • Tailors sales materials, packages, marketing platforms and activation ideas based on conversations with each company and conduct additional research on prospects as needed.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Marketing, oversee production of partnership newsletters in MailChimp including scheduling, writing, design/layout, editing and distribution.
  • Write content, publish, monitor, and respond to engagement on all industry specific social media platforms including Twitter, Linkedin, and Google Groups. Support Facebook and Instagram social media efforts as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Marketing and any contractors with the gathering business information and advertising creative from partners and participating stakeholders for the annual Travel Guide.
  • Enter public relations data on a quarterly basis and communicate results in newsletters quarterly.
  • Lead the planning in of the annual MoCo Eats week

Minimum Knowledge

  • 2-4 years in a related field with a background in business development, sponsorship sales, event planning, marketing, hospitality and/or communications.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Mailchimp, Simpleview and Linkedin are preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of connectivity to corporate sponsorship community to include regional and national affiliations.
  • Knowledge of Montgomery County including hotels, attractions, restaurants, town centers and services is a must.
  • Writing samples may be requested of candidates who are selected to interview

    Position Requirements

    Marketing, communications, writing, business development, customer service, membership relations, market research, marketing campaigns, campaign evaluation, database management, Microsoft Office programs required.

      Work Experience

      • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Marketing, Communications, Community Relations or Business. Minimum of two years’ experience working in positions dealing with clients and/or customers. (DMO experience a plus)
      • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Mailchimp
      • Ability to represent the organization’s best interests at outside meetings and events.
      • Ability to manage the execution of multiple activities and effectively prioritize tasks.
      • Team player that works effectively with internal departments as well as outside vendors and organizations.

        • Work Schedule: Work may require evening, night, holiday or weekend assignments on occasion.  Schedule varies according to business demands and needs.
        • Required Travel: Some assignments (less than 50%) require travel via car, train, subway or bus.
