The countdown to Halloween has begun. If you haven’t found the perfect costume yet or still need to gather candies and sweets to hand out to all the trick-or-treaters, don’t worry – there’s still time left this weekend.

As you’re out and about, why not stop by some of these fantastic events happening across Montgomery County?

Not-so-spooky Skate

Get a jumpstart on the Halloween festivities at Cabin John Ice Rink and Wheaton Ice Arena. Both venues will have free skate classes for beginners followed by public skating. Skaters should come in costume so they can trick-or-treat at the rink, participate in the costume contest, and do some Halloween crafts. Skaters under the age of 6 should have a parent with them in the public skating and craft portion of the program. Please register the child only.

Pumpkin Panache Festival

Calling all boys, girls and ghouls! This family-friendly festival will surely get you in the Halloween spirit. There will be a parade through Brookside Gardens, where children can show off their Halloween costumes. They will also get to paint pumpkins, eat tasty Halloween treats and listen to live storytelling. The event is for children ages three to 12 and costs $18 per child. Parents are free.

Murder at the Mansion

This weekend Kentlands Mansion will present Murder at the Mansion Dessert Theater, an interactive mystery performance. The plot is centered on a bookstore owner that invites a popular author to his shop in hopes of drawing in new customers. But instead, he just brings trouble. Who will be buried, and who will survive? Find the clues and enjoy a buffet of sweet treats. Tickets are $35 for an individual and $60 for two.

Mall-o-ween at Lakeforest Mall

Mall-o-ween Lakeforest

Celebrate Halloween early at Lakeforest Mall by wearing your costume and trick-or-treating around the mall. The first 200 children will receive a Gaver Farm’s pumpkin from the indoor pumpkin patch and a special fall craft.

Boo! At the Barn

Boo! at the Barn

Boo! at the Barn will include Halloween-themed art activities, games, a costume parade, trick-or-treating, photo opportunities, and more. You can also enjoy a children’s version of the Broadway musical “Into the Woods, Jr.,” at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. (requires theater tickets) in the Arts Barn theater. Dog owners can also bring their dog to the K-9 Costume Contest at 2 p.m. Zoës Kitchen will provide complementary snacks.
