For a unique pick-your-own experience from May to December, visit Butler’s Orchard in Germantown. Known for their abundant strawberries, they also have a variety of fruits, vegetables, pumpkins, and even Christmas trees available seasonally. The Orchard’s farm market sells fresh milk and homemade goods throughout the year. The Lancaster County Dutch Market, also in Germantown, features a collection of vendors selling homemade foods, candies, groceries, and furniture.


Be sure to make a stop at BlackRock Center for the Arts and Gaithersburg Concert Pavilion for outdoor summer concerts and family-friendly performances. For plays, local art exhibits, and other performances throughout the year, visit The Arts Barn.


Take to the outdoors at the South Germantown Recreational Park. With indoor and outdoor sporting options ranging from the SoccerPlex to an indoor pool, it’s sure to fill up your day with adventure and fun. Or, head to Black Hill Regional Park and spend the day hiking and kayaking. Family-friendly Bohrer Park contains a miniature golf course and a water park, and you can watch DC Radio-Control Club members fly model airplanes at the nearby Walt Good Field.


Take a laid-back stroll through the shops and restaurants at RIO Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg. Follow the paved lakeside walking path and take a ride on the old-fashioned carousel. For an added adventure, try paddle boating for an up-close view of the fountains located throughout the lake.
