Catching a soccer game has become a favorite pastime in Montgomery County, Maryland. The Washington Spirit are heading into the second half of the NWSL season with a pair of World Cup champions preparing to rejoin the team.
Rose Lavelle and Mallory Pugh were both a part of the U.S. women’s national team that dominated the recent Women’s World Cup in France, and they are returning to the Maryland SoccerPlex to suit up for the Spirit.
Both Lavelle and Pugh were honored for their World Cup accomplishments following the game on Saturday, July 20, when the Spirit took on the Houston Dash. The two players each scored two goals in the World Cup, while Lavelle earned the Bronze Ball award as the third-best player in the tournament.
The Spirit will next be in action at the SoccerPlex in Boyds on August 10 against the Chicago Red Stars and August 21 against Utah Royals FC.
