Festival of Lights

The Washington, DC Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints, also known as the Mormon Temple, is open to all during the Christmas season. This impressive church and its surrounding grounds shine brightly with more than 450,000 sparkling Christmas lights. Each night, a different local musical group performs a live concert in a state-of-the-art theater. All events are free! Visitors are welcome to explore the Washington, DC Mormon Temple grounds and the Visitors’ Center and see a live outdoor nativity scene, an indoor exhibit of international nativity scenes and a selection of Christmas films.
December 4, 2013 – January 1, 2014. Dusk to 10 p.m. nightly. Nativity scene is open each evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Live musical performances begin at 7 and 8 p.m.

Winter Lights at Seneca Creek State Park

Open Nightly November 28 through December 31, 2014.

Winter Lights is a magical Christmas light display at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
See more than 350 illuminated displays and along a 3.5-mile drive through the park. Driving through the enchanted forest setting, you will experience an array of displays that light up the night. Themed areas include Winter Woods, Teddy Bear Land, Victorian Village, the North Pole and much more. Winter Lights benefits local charities such as Andy’s Safe Haven, Asbury Methodist Village in support of Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative, Baby’s Bounty MC, Inc., Friends of Wells/Robertson House, Inc., Gaithersburg Community Soup Kitchen, and Pain Connection – Chronic Pain Outreach Center, Inc.

Bethesda’s Winter Wonderland

Bethesda’s annual Winter Wonderland is a community holiday celebration featuring a variety of entertainment and performances, a live ice sculpting presentation and a visit from Santa Claus.
December 5-6, 2014
Friday, December 5 – Kick off the season at 8 p.m. with a winter concert featuring professional choral groups at Imagination Stage, located at 4908 Auburn Avenue. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
Saturday, December 6 – Celebrate the season at Bethesda’s Winter Wonderland from 1 to 4 p.m. in Veterans Park, located at the corner of Woodmont and Norfolk Avenues.

Santa Paws

Come out and get your family’s or pet’s photo with Santa. Elves will be available to help capture that special holiday snapshot in a holiday photo frame for only $10

The Moscow Ballet

Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is celebrating 20 years touring North America and overflows with holiday delight! See a cast of 40 astounding dancers in the classic Christmas story with unique Russian zest.
Performances will be held at Strathmore Music Center on Sunday, December 14, 2014.
Shows at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM

Downtown Silver Spring’s Re-Imagining

The interactive installation will be unveiled on November 15, 2014 during the ‘Re-Imagining the Holidays’ event, and will remain on display for approximately ten weeks on the fountain plaza. The ‘Re-Imagining the Holidays’ project has a strong altruistic component, and aims to give back to the local community by partnering with non profit organizations. Host Tommy McFly from 94.7 FRESH-FM will help light up Silver Symphony – an impressive 35 foot tall interactive and musical holiday tree comprised of chimes, bells, pinwheels and ribbons! This is sure to be an evening of festive holiday fun for everyone – musical performances, strolling entertainment, appearances by Maryland Youth Ballet’s Nutcracker, prizes, giveaways, sampling and so much more!

RIO Washingtonian’s Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration

RIO Washingtonian Center invites the community to attend the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on November 21, 2014. NBC4’s Melissa Mollet will host the seasonal celebration and lead the crowd in the traditional tree lighting countdown. The community is invited to enjoy holiday entertainment and activities that celebrate the season:
• Santa and Mrs. Claus grand entrance
• Tree lighting countdown
• Musical entertainment
• Photos with Santa
• Carriage rides along Boardwalk Place
• Strolling entertainment, including sugar plum fairies and elves
• Giveaways
• Samples from RIO Washingtonian restaurants and shops

Rockville Town Square Holiday Open House

The Holiday Open House features Santa’s Arrival, the Holiday Tree Lighting, FREE photos with Santa, refreshments, holiday music and more! Aaron Gilchrist, NBC4 Morning News anchor, will attend as the guest of honor, and lead us in the traditional holiday tree lighting countdown. Parking during the tree lighting event will be free. Don’t miss this popular event on Thursday, December 4, 2014 @ 6 PM
