Spending time indoors means more time for creating memories with the people around you. We rounded up a few ways you can enjoy MoCo at Home with fun virtual activities including an at-home camp, live streams of concerts, virtual farm tours, and online history happy hours.
Bring Camp to Your Home
Recreate outdoor adventures indoors with Calleva Home Camp. On weekdays the Calleva team provides fun family bonding activities like recipes, songs, games, crafts, half-day activities, and virtual garden tours.
Tour an Art Exhibit
Strathmore Mansion is offering a virtual art exhibition of current artwork on display. Right now you can view “Shake It Out”, a collection of pieces that capture the movement of dancers in sumi ink by artist Mani Moerland, and “Working with the Muse”, a series of handmade quilts created by members of Studio Art Quilt Associates.
Learn New Dance Moves
Work a sweat and learn some new skills while doing so with CityDance’s virtual live adult dance classes. They are currently offering classes in body-friendly ballet, fithop, contemporary jazz, and beginner hip hop taught by their faculty on ZOOM.
Attend a Theatre Class
Round House Theatre is now offering its youth programs online so that students can continue their education from home. The classes focus on exploring all aspects of theatre including acting, movement, design, and play creation.
Rock Out to a Jam Session
Let the little ones explore different genres of music with The Music Center at Strathmore’s Saturday Family Jam Sessions. Every Saturday, musical artists from all different backgrounds will share a live performance on Facebook Live.
Step Back in Time
Grab your favorite cocktail to sip at Sandy Spring Museum’s Virtual History Happy Hours with professionals from an array of backgrounds to learn more about iconic moments in history.
Catch a Flick
Support our local theater by streaming independent films right from your couch with AFI Silver’s virtual screening room. Choose from one of eight movies now showing, including ‘“Extra Ordinary”, “Sorry We Missed You”, “The Whistlers”, and more.
Hang Out on the Farm
Head to the Tusculum Farm Instagram profile to meet some of the animals—pony, chickens, alpacas, and lambs—and learn some new animal facts on their IGTV videos.
Shop Local with Curbside Pick Up
Support beloved local businesses by grabbing some pantry essentials with curbside pickup. The Family Room offers locally made products and survival kits for kids (complete with puzzles and ice cream!), Butlers Orchard offers fresh eggs, fruits, veggies, and baked goods, and Rock Hill Orchard is offering milk, beef, and ice cream for purchase.
