Visit Montgomery has worked with Montgomery County Government to help businesses earn facility accreditation through the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a division of the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) program. ISAA is a worldwide cleaning industry association. ISSA unveiled the GBAC STAR facility accreditation program on cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention earlier this year. In Montgomery County, MD, Hyatt Regency Bethesda is the first facility to achieve the third party, science based accreditation.
The GBAC STAR team reviews what you are currently doing, and adds an additional layer of confidence and trust that proper guidelines are being followed through third-party validation of efforts.
Yes, there are two opportunities available: Full facility accreditation which you may consider for key venues and the other option is the GBAC STAR Fundamentals online course for individuals.
The online course is also made available to facilities that complete the full accreditation but can also be an option for individuals working at a facility. The course teaches cleaning professionals to prepare for, respond to and recover from biohazards in the workplace. Participants will learn infection and contamination control measures for infectious disease outbreak situations such as the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).
Individuals who successfully complete the course within 30 days will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a division of ISSA, and can use the term “GBAC-Trained Technician” to distinguish themselves in their marketing and communication materials.
GBAC-Trained Technicians are cleaning professionals with the planning, knowledge and processes needed to respond to a biohazard crisis in the workplace. They bring increased value to their employers and customers because they demonstrate the competence to carry out their responsibilities and they have a commitment to the standards of excellence and continuous learning.
