When people normally think of accordions, they don’t usually think of intricate, complex instrumental compositions—Hanzhi Wang is here to change that. At age 29, Wang has captivated audiences all over the world with her arrangements of classical music adapted for the accordion. Her dedication to the unique instrument is reflected in the number of “firsts” she has achieved in her young career. In 2017, Hanzhi Wang became the very first accordionist to win First Prize at the Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions. Her solo accordion recording, On the Path to H.C. Andersen, was Naxos’ first solo accordion album and received critical acclaim including a nomination for the Danish Radio P2 Prize. Upcoming and recent highlights include her Tanglewood debut and a coast-to-coast tour with Avi Avital, which includes a performance presented by the New York Philharmonic.
