Come join us for a night celebrating the incredible sculpture of Colin Vale at our Artists’ Reception!
Join us for an **Artists’ Reception** featuring wood sculpture by “Carvin'” Colin Vale on **Sat September 21, 2024** at **5:00 PM** at the beachKraft Studio Gallery for a night of art and creativity.
Meet the talented artist, Brookeville, MD resident, Colin Vale.
Colin will present a selection of wood sculpture made with a chainsaw and other carving tools.
Colin Vale is a local “chainsaw” sculptor and will be presenting wood sculptures in his exhibition. An early guerilla exhibition in front of the Olney, MD Post Office created a stir when one of his wood sculptures was stolen, which led directly to a large commission at Brookside Gardens that launched his career.
Colin spent time in Easter Island where his mentor Moi Moi Tuki taught him the value of a stable foundation and sharp tools and mind. That spark found dry kindling years later when Vale quit his desk job in search of”right livelihood”and dedicated himself to making the world more beautiful through art. The impracticality of small sculpture led him to reach out to a local chainsaw carver for a lesson, and Andrew Mallon gladly imparted some of his wisdom on Vale.
Many of Vale’s sculptures address environmental issues. “I see a life out of balance. We’re suffocating in a blanket of clear molecules. I hope by making the invisible visible we can feel the urgency of the carbon dioxide problem,” he says.
See Colin’s work at the gallery, Tuesday through Sunday, 11 AM to 8 PM. Opening reception will be held Saturday September 21st, 5 PM to 7 PM. Live music at the reception will be provided by 29th Century Guitar.
