Montgomery County, Maryland resident Suzanne Papiewski will present a solo exhibition at the beachKraft Studio and Gallery throughout the month of August, 2024.
The artist grew up in a small town in Illinois and left home at 18. She put herself though college and law school, graduated from the University of Illinois, cum laude, with a B.A., and graduated from Georgetown University Law Center, cum laude, with a J.D. She started creating art in 2022.
Suzanne uses a unique mixed-media approach to collage and acrylic painting, many times employing a “shocking pink” palette in her abstract and representational pieces that are often about women. “My art puts women center stage. My work typically features a female protagonist who is not restricted by traditional gender roles and in fact may involve rewriting gender mythology,” she says. When working with collage, her process involves “a method of deconstructing and reconstructing faces using features from individuals with different ethnic backgrounds. My goal is to create a face that blends different characteristics so that any woman can see herself in my art, as the star of the work.”
Suzanne will be showing a wide range of work at the beachKraft gallery in August. See it on display Tuesday through Sunday, 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM.
A closing reception will be held Saturday, August 31, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
Live music will be provided at the receptions by 29th Century Guitar.
