Prathertown was founded in 1883 by enslaved persons Moses, Marshall, Rezin and John Prather and Ann McAbeee Prather. This 13 acre patch of history known as “Dorsey’s Meadow” was purchased for $50 per acre from John Dorsey, a well-known landowner.
Founders and descendants still reside in Prathertown and have been promoting equity in entrepreneurship and education, Prathertown Community Development Corporation addresses critical challenges with creatives approaches via public private partnerships.
