September 22 will mark the official start of the fall season. While this might be great news for people who like to bundle up and enjoy the foliage, it also means that this will be the last weekend of the summer.

Silver Spring Health and Wellness Expo & Dance Fitness Festival
The annual Silver Spring Health and Wellness Expo & Dance Fitness Festival is a free outdoor event designed to inspire and motivate everyone in the community to make healthier lifestyle choices – all while having fun through dance and fitness classes. The goal is to educate people on the importance of knowing their health numbers and how to keep their numbers in a healthy range to reduce the chances of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and other preventable health conditions. There will be yoga, hip-hop, Zumba, Indian and other dance classes and demos. The event will close with a Salsa & Bachata Block Party!

Children’s Day Honey Harvest Festival
Bees and other pollinators are incredibly important for not only produce and gardens, but also the feed for livestock and other critters. Celebrate these important creatures at the Children’s Day Honey Harvest Festival. Bee populations are on the decline, and this festival is dedicated to relaying the importance of the flying insect. Talk to beekeepers, watch honey being harvested, buy local honey, enjoy family-friendly crafts and games, and so much more!

Wings of Fancy Live Butterfly & Caterpillar Exhibit
Also taking place at Brookside Gardens, the Wings of Fancy Live Butterfly & Caterpillar Exhibit ends this Sunday. This is your last chance to see the exhibit, featuring hundreds of brilliant live butterflies from North America, Costa Rica, Africa and Asia soaring among colorful flowers. You will learn about butterflies’ amazing metamorphosis, the important role they play in healthy ecosystems, and how to ensure these beautiful insects thrive in your own garden.

The Princess Bride: An Evening with Cary Elwes
Fans of the 1987 cult-classic, The Princess Bride, will be delighted to experience a screening of the movie followed by a behind-the-scenes look by celebrated actor Cary Elwes, who played the protagonist Westley. Elwes will engage in a moderated discussion of classic scenes with never before shared secrets and stories from the set, along with unbelievable antics sure to entertain. The Annual Aspen Hill Community Festival
This weekend marks the 26th annual Aspen Hill Community Festival. Taking place at the Aspen Hill Library, the festival has fun for kids of all ages. There will be paper crafts, balloon animals, book giveaways, drumming courtesy of the Luis Garay Percussion World Duo and a fire truck from the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (Kensington Volunteer Fire Department).
