Montgomery County’s diversity comes alive in the fall, when communities celebrate their heritage through food, film, music and traditions from around the world.

Fall is a chance to experience Montgomery County through the food, film and cultural traditions found throughout its communities. In Silver Spring, the 41st Annual Mediterranean Festival brings the flavors of the Middle East to St. Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church September 11–13, with hummus, shawarma, grilled lamb, falafel, gyros, fresh pita and homemade pastries alongside live music. Admission and parking are free, making it the perfect fall outing for the whole family.

For a different kind of cultural experience, head to Downtown Silver Spring for the 37th annual AFI Latin American Film Festival, taking place September 16–October 7. One of North America’s longest-running showcases of Latin American cinema, the festival brings films from Latin America, Spain and Portugal. AFI Theatre: Downtown Silver Spring

Silver Spring’s cultural calendar continues with the 22nd Annual Washington Ukrainian Festival in Silver Spring, September 18–20. Explore Ukraine’s rich traditions, arts, music, and cuisine with live performances, kid-friendly activities, and refreshments in the beer garden. This year, discover a special collection of 50 traditional Ukrainian rushnyky, embroidered ceremonial cloths, from the private collection of American diplomat George P. Kent and his wife, Velida Kitaina Kent. A portion of proceeds supports ongoing humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Bubble tea is gaining popularity across Montgomery County, and the 2026 Taiwan Bubble Tea Festival at Rockville Town Square is the perfect excuse to try something new. Taking place Saturday, September 19, at Rockville Town Square, the festival celebrates Taiwanese culture through its iconic drink. Sip your way through creamy milk teas, refreshing fruit-forward blends, chewy boba, and flavorful toppings while enjoying cultural performances, live music, and interactive booths for all ages.

Get Outside and Embrace the Season

Fall is also the perfect time to slow down, head outdoors and experience the county’s farms and open spaces.

For an experience made for fall, head to Butler’s Orchard Pumpkin Festival in the heart of Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve, running September 19–November 1. Get lost in the Twisted Corn Maze, pick your own pumpkin, visit the friendly goats and sheep, race down giant slides, take a hayride around the farm, hop on a pony ride, and listen to live music perfect on a crisp fall afternoon. Reservations are strongly encouraged.

Settle in for cooler temperatures at the Harvest Festival at the Agricultural History Farm Park on Saturday, October 3 in Derwood. Enjoy a family-friendly hayride around the farm, paint an Instagram worthy pumpkin, and discover Montgomery County’s agricultural heritage through live sheep herding and farm demonstrations. Savor local treats, farm-fresh ice cream, food truck favorites, and craft beverages in a relaxed farm setting.

Sip, Savor & Celebrate Oktoberfest

From lively biergartens and local breweries to community celebrations, Oktoberfest brings German-inspired food and beer, live music, traditional dancing and plenty of seasonal fun to destinations throughout the county. Raise a stein, enjoy a bratwurst and celebrate the season at Oktoberfest events happening across Montgomery County. Make a Day of It

Known as one of Montgomery County’s signature food events, the 4th Annual Taste of Rio takes place in Gaithersburg on Sunday, September 27. Stroll the Lakefront while sampling delicious bites from participating Rio restaurants, sip handcrafted cocktails, enjoy live music, and join in on fun competitions. Whether you’re discovering a new favorite or revisiting a classic, Taste of Rio is the perfect way to taste, sip, and celebrate with family and friends. Returning for its 34th year, the annual Taste of Bethesda takes place at Woodmont Triangle on Saturday, October 3. Sample flavors from around the world, including French, Peruvian, Mexican, Asian, and Greek cuisine, along with sweets and craft beverages. Enjoy live entertainment across four stages, featuring the 19th Street Band and Honest Lee Soul, plus family-friendly activities like face painting and arts and crafts. Admission is free, making it an easy way to turn the festival into a full afternoon downtown.

Spend an afternoon in Downtown Silver Spring enjoying world-class live music at the Silver Spring Jazz Fest on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Veterans Plaza. Headlining this year is Grammy-nominated artist Cimafunk, known for his energetic Afro-Cuban fusion that has captivated audiences around the world.
