The culmination of our weeklong celebration, June 19th is a powerful day of honoring freedom and the rich history of the Scotland Community.
5K Run
We kick off the morning at 8 AM with the Juneteenth 5K, a meaningful run through the historic Black neighborhood of Scotland, passing landmarks like the 100-year-old Scotland AME Zion Church on Seven Locks Road.

Wellness and Social Action Pavilion
After crossing the finish line, don’t let the energy fade—head over to the Wellness and Social Action Pavilion at Cabin John Village (9 AM – 1 PM)! Explore a vibrant showcase of organizations, nonprofits, and community groups dedicated to uplifting and empowering our community. Connect with passionate leaders, discover valuable resources, and be inspired by the impactful initiatives shaping our future. Join us for a morning of learning, networking, and celebration!

Family Carnival
For our youngest adventurers, the Family Carnival at Cabin John Park (11 AM – 5 PM) is a day full of excitement, creativity, and unforgettable memories! Enjoy rides, games, live performances, and hands-on activities the whole family will love. Don’t miss the Juneteenth Parade at 2:00 PM, featuring marching bands, dancers, performers, and colorful floats celebrating freedom, culture, and community.

Unity Through Community: The Kinship Communities of Montgomery County Exhibition
Celebrate Juneteenth with a journey through history at the Kinship Communities of Montgomery County Exhibition, held at the newly renovated Scotland A.M.E. Zion Church in Potomac (11:30 AM – 1:30 PM). Explore the stories of some of the county’s oldest Black communities as they showcase their rich legacies—from their founding roots to their present-day impact. This powerful exhibition brings together community members, historians, and local leaders to honor the people and places that continue to shape Montgomery County. Connect with neighbors, deepen your understanding of local Black heritage, and be part of a gathering rooted in remembrance, pride, and unity.

Clarence “Pint” Isreal Baseball Classic
Step back in time and celebrate a cherished local tradition at the Clarence “Pint” Isreal Juneteenth Classic (6-9 p.m.) taking place at Shirley Povich Field between the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League’s Gaithersburg Giants and Bethesda Big Train. Big Train players will wear Eagles jerseys to honor the 1954 Scotland Eagles from the era of Montgomery’s Black Sandlot teams. Gates open at 5 p.m. with a Pint Isreal bobblehead for the first 500 fans. Memorabilia on display from the Hubert V. Simmons Museum of Negro Leagues Baseball. Honoring Delegate Greg Wims as a Big Train Community Hero. This commemorative game pays tribute to Clarence “Pint” Isreal, Montgomery County’s greatest Negro Leagues star and a great mentor to Montgomery County youth.

Fireworks & Tailgating
As the sun sets, the excitement ignites at Shirley Povich Field at 5:00 PM! Gather for an incredible evening of tailgating, community spirit, and an awe-inspiring fireworks display that will light up the night in a breathtaking spectacle of color and brilliance.
