Kavita Shah is a jazz vocalist and lifelong New Yorker of Indian origin, hailed for possessing an “amazing dexterity for musical languages” (NPR). In her latest project, she explores the sounds and stories of São Vicente, an island of Cape Verde, off West Africa. The heartfelt music makes audiences want to dance and cry at the same time, with melancholic melodies and vivid lyrical pictures. Her formal music education runs tangent to a studious career mastering Brazilian, West African, and Indian music. Shah has sung on 6 continents and at notable venues from The Kennedy Center to Blue Note.
