This weekend, we close the chapter on September and officially move into October – one of the best and most vibrant times of the year in Montgomery County. There are tons of exciting events happening throughout the month, including art shows, Oktoberfests and spooky Halloween celebrations.

Markoff’s Haunted Forest
Maryland’s original Halloween event is back starting Friday, September 29! For the past 25 years, Markoff’s Haunted Forest has sent chills down the spines of residents and visitors with new and terrifying experiences. This year, there will be trails of terror and an entire town filled with unimaginable horrors. The event will continue through Halloween and open at dusk (around 7 p.m.) each weekend. 2017 DC Design House
This year is the 10th annual DC Design House, a curated house featuring 23 beautifully-designed spaces to tour, four boutiques and special events throughout the month in the home’s ballroom, plus a daily onsite cafe by Relish Catering. Listed at $10.48 million by Fouad Talout and Pascale Karam of Long & Foster Real Estate, the four-story, 27,256 square-foot Potomac home includes nine bedrooms, nine full bathrooms, four half baths, lower level ballroom, cinema, two-story library flanked by his and her offices, multiple kitchens, and elevator. Built in 2009, the home sits on two acres and includes a pool and pool house with apartment and covered terrace. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Children’s National Health System.

Make It Funky Wild Beer Fest
Denizens Brewing Co. is hosting its 3rd annual Make It Funky Wild Beer Festival to celebrate the unique and mouth-watering style of wild and sour brews. Craft beer fans will get a chance to sample over 100 funky beers from over 30 craft breweries. From briny goses to barnyard-y brett beers, participating breweries spanning from the Mid-Atlantic to Colorado will be showing off their best rare and one-of-a-kind wild beers. The fest will be both indoor and outdoor, with fantastic soul music from Soul Stew in Denizens’ beer garden and a funky DJ set inside the brewery.

Haven’t had enough beer? North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose shopping center will host its fourth annual PIKEtoberfest, Sunday, October 1, from noon to 4 p.m. In addition to a selection of craft beers, there will be entertainment for the entire family, including little ones not ready for their first pint yet. Attendees will also get to savor food from local restaurants, experience live music courtesy of AMP by Strathmore, explore a hay maze, play lawn games, shop sidewalk sales and more. Plus – the event is FREE.

Perfect Pairings Wine Tour
If you prefer wine over brews, Bethesda Row’s Perfect Pairings Wine Tour is the perfect event for you. Sample more than 20 wines from around the world, paired with tapas style dishes from nine of the region’s best restaurants and wine destinations, including Cork & Fork, Jaleo, Kapnos Kouzina, Lebanese Taverna, Mamma Lucia, Mussel Bar, Raku, Redwood Restaurant & Bar and Vino Volo. Takoma Park Street Festival
Last but certainly not least is the Takoma Park Street Festival. Voted one of the top three neighborhood festivals by Washington City Paper readers, the festival will take place Sunday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy the day exploring over 200 vendors booths, live music from 18 local bands, children’s activities, food trucks and more. Plus the Crawl is back! Festival attendees may purchase commemorative Takoma mugs and cups good for discounted pours in participating businesses during and after the festival (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available).
