The holidays are upon us. If you’re not in the holiday spirit just yet, don’t worry. We have plenty of events happening this weekend in Montgomery County, MD to put you in that festive mood. From specialty gift shops and tree decorations, to pet photos and train rides with Santa, here is your weekend round up for December 8-10, 2017.
A Christmas Carol
This is the last weekend to check out the Kensington Arts Theatre and Arts on the Green production of the Christmas musical classic, A Christmas Carol. The story centers on Scrooge, a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is what’s most important in life. But he’s forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts lead him through his Past, Present and Future on Christmas Eve. Thanks to their guidance, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheer, before spending the day reconnecting and sharing love with those that mean the most to him. Holiday Gift Shop and Farm Open House
Star Gazing Farm, an animal sanctuary, will be holding a holiday gift shop and farm tour on Saturdays this month, December 9, 16, and 23. There will be gorgeous wool/alpaca woven rugs, yarn and wool, hand-woven baskets with animal themes, knitted hats, gloves & scarves, ceramics and more. During the farm tour, you’ll get to meet goats, alpacas and sheep; pet a donkey and even hang out with a pig! All sales will benefit the animals in the sanctuary’s care and help keep its educational youth work programs running.

Winter Farmers & Artist Market
Each Saturday in December, vendors will fill up Kentlands’ Main Street for a unique and festive shopping experience. There will be small-batch liquors, chocolates and brittle, handcrafted jewelry, knits, home goods, and other one-of-a-kind gift items! There will also be fun children’s activities, ornament and bookmark decorating, while the adults can enjoy tastings with two local distilleries.

Pet Photos With Santa

All Aboard With Santa
Here’s a perfect event for train enthusiasts! Enjoy fresh baked cookies and hot chocolate for children, and tea or coffee for the adults, in the 1884 Railroad Station. Visit with Santa in the caboose, view vintage model train cars and listen to stories in the Budd Car, and play and learn in the Freight House. Advance ticket purchase is required. Tickets may be purchased online or at the Gaithersburg Community Museum.

Christmas on Main Street Damascus
Head over to Main Street Damascus for a magical evening of fun, tradition and excitement. The event will start from Jimmy Cone, where you will find an extra-large tree to decorate with ornaments and Christmas singalongs. Then Santa will lead the way down to Main Street where he will set up for all to visit and tell him their holiday requests. Warm up with delicious hot chocolate or coffee. There will be crafts, food and fun, all in the holiday spirit. You won’t want to miss this new family event!

During the Holly Trolleyfest, Santa boards each street car trip and visits with children during their ride through Northwest Branch Park. You can also enjoy Santa’s Garden in the National Capital Trolley Museum’s auditorium, tour Street Car Hall, learn about the role of street cars in developing communities, and watch silent film comedies featuring street cars.
