Weekend Events: December 1-3

As we say farewell to November and welcome December, it is time to begin the countdown to the holidays. There are several events in Montgomery County this weekend to help you kick off the month including Bethesda’s Winter Wonderland, Gaithersburg’s annual Jingle Jubilee and the Holly Trolleyfest in Silver Spring.

Bethesda’s Winter Wonderland will feature free entertainment, a live ice sculpting demonstration and a visit from Santa Claus. Watch as a block of ice is transformed into a holiday work of art! Bring your holiday “wish list” to share with our visitor from the North Pole and enjoy free treats from downtown Bethesda restaurants all while listening to festive melodies from local elementary, middle and high school singers.

Jingle Jubilee

Welcome the holidays with a traditional tree lighting ceremony, holiday music and a special visit from Santa at Gaithersburg’s Jingle Jubilee. This year marks the 91st anniversary of the tree lighting ceremony. This joyous event, perfect for families with young children, features live performances and special appearances by Santa, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Elmo, and Cookie Monster. Festive giveaways, photo booths, holiday card signing for our troops, and a magnificent tree lighting ceremony create a delightful holiday mood.

Holly Trolleyfest

Holly Trolleyfest

Holly TrolleyFest features Santa aboard street car rides and toy trains in Santa’s Garden. Santa boards each street car trip and visits with children during their ride through Northwest Branch Park. Visitors may enjoy Santa’s Garden in the Museum’s auditorium, tour Street Car Hall with a docent, learn about the role of street cars in developing communities, and see the antics of Harold Lloyd in silent film comedies featuring street cars.
