With Halloween around the corner, Montgomery County is crawling with a variety of haunted and spooktacular activities for all.

Here are 13 Spooktacular Halloween Happenings for you to try this Halloween season.

 1. Field of Screams Maryland

Celebrate Halloween at one of the largest and most popular haunted attractions in the capital region! Celebrate Halloween with 4 terrifying haunts in one location. Take a 30 min walk on the TRAIL OF TERROR and a tour of the new LUSION MANOR haunted house, try a ride on the HADES’ HAYRIDE or shoot at Zombies at the ZOMBIE PAINTBALL APOCALYPSE.

When: September 18-November 1, 2015, Fridays and Saturdays and select Thursdays and Sundays

2. Butler’s Orchard Annual Pumpkin Festival

Celebrate the annual Pumpkin Festival is held weekends throughout October, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pick a pumpkin; take a hayride; explore a hay maze; and enjoy crafts, food, and family activities.

When: Open now through October 31

3. Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival


For ten nights in October the tenth annual Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival will showcase the best in new horror cinema from around the world, and once again the entire festival (more than 40 shorts and features) will screen at the American Film Institute’s AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center!

4. Markoff’s Haunted Forest


Get spooked at this Halloween event near Poolesville, Maryland. Markoff’s Haunted Forest has been rated the #1 Halloween attraction by Channel 7 (ABC).

 5. Wheaton Haunted Train & Creepy Carousel

The Wheaton Haunted Train and Creepy Carousel each feature very frightening sights, sounds and creatures. This event is not suitable for children younger than 8 years old–we aim to scare!

When: October 10-11, 16-18 and 23-25 and everyday from Wednesday, October 28 through Saturday, October 31

Howl-O-Wine is a family-friendly event that includes wine, food, arts & crafts, shopping, raffles, a silent auction and our famous Doggie Costume Contest! Pack a lunch and join us for the festivities! There will also be a BBQ vendor!

7. Murder at the Mansion: Polter-Heist


Just in time for Halloween, Arts on the Green and Kentlands Mansion present “Polter-Heist,” a murder mystery comedy that is part of the inaugural Murder at the Mansion Dessert Theater. Set in the beautiful and atmospheric Kentlands Mansion, the audience will have a frightfully good time helping to solve a crime while enjoying a buffet of ghoulish sweet treats.

8. Silver Spring Zombie Walk

Enjoy a great evening with people dressed up as zombies! Parade route starts from 7:00-8:00 PM on Selim next to Jackie’s Sidebar and ending at AFI Silver Theatre. AFI has announced the movie that will follow the zombie walk this year. Day of the Dead.

9. Halloween on the Screen

10. Spooky Tots


Come out October 28 from 10am-12pm for a fun, family performance and activities to celebrate Halloween a couple of days early! Enjoy face painting, balloon artistry and a special Spooky Tots show featuring Shazam Magic inside the RIO Atrium.

11. Zombie Aparkalypse


The Zombie Aparkalypse is a walk through the deepest and darkest part of the Adventure Park at Sandy Spring. Where you will have to escape from hungry zombies!

13. Yappy Hour: Howl-O-Ween Pawty


Canines & their companions are invited for tricks & treats!  Enjoy the final Yappy Hour of the year with a costume party.  A panel of Judges will determine which dog will take home the prize in the following categories:  Scariest, Funniest, Most Glamourous & Best Owner/Dog Duo.
