10 Festivals and Events You Should Attend in September
Enjoy great dining deals and try some new restaurants in Silver Spring, Maryland during Restaurant Week. During Silver Spring Restaurant Week, restaurants will feature prix fixe lunch for $12 or $17 and dinner for $17 or $27. Silver Spring Restaurant Week is the perfect opportunity to dine out and try some new restaurants at reduced prices. In addition to these exclusive menus, most participating restaurants will also offer standard fare at regular prices. Some restaurants may offer specials for just lunch or dinner or may require reservations, so please call ahead to make reservations and confirm details.

The Silver Spring Jazz Festival is a free annual event in Downtown Silver Spring featuring a variety of jazz performances. The performances are held outdoors so bring a blanket and/or beach chair. A wide variety of food will be available to purchase from local restaurants. Headlining this year is the Al Chez and The Brothers of Funk Big Band. Performances will also include Marcus Johnson & the Urban Jam Band, Halley Shoenberg, Dani Cortaza and the Jazz Academy of Music.

Join us for our 55th Annual Greek Festival!
Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Washington DC, offers the largest & oldest Greek festival in the Washington, D.C. area. We bring a “Taste of Greece” to the area’s neighborhoods and suburbs. The festival is open to the public! Credit cards are accepted. In addition to Greek food, the festival features authentic Greek coffees, beers, wines, and live Greek music. Our Greek Marketplace offers books, jewelry, trinkets and religious items. The festival offers FREE admission, FREE parking, authentic Greek cuisine, delicious Greek pastries, Greek dance, a bazaar, and a kid’s corner. You can find face painting, and balloon animals at the kid’s corner!

The 10th annual grand celebration of the Salvadoran Independence Day Festival will be held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on Sunday, September 13, 2015. The festival coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month and features a rich display of traditional food, music, and culture. Based on last year’s success, more than 20,000 people will congregate to support and enjoy the official independence festivities and it’s featured star performers. The “10th Annual Salvadoran Independence Festival” (10th Festival Salvadoreñisimo) will be this year’s main venue for organizations and companies to reach thousands of Salvadorians, Central Americans and Latino families from around the globe, conveniently, and cost effectively in one place – at one time.
The Festival showcases the best filmmaking from Latin America and celebrates Ibero-American cultural connections through the inclusion of films from Spain and Portugal.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the day-long outdoor Bluegrass on the Farm festival at the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood, Maryland. The first event in 2006 was hosted by the Friends of the Agricultural History Farm Park, Inc. After that first year the traditional Music Foundation joined forces with the Friends of the Farm in 2007 and provided funds and expertise to help build the event into one of the most successful outdoor music festivals in the immediate Washington DC area.
This year’s festival will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2015, from noon until 6PM. Plenty of lawn seating is available among the trees and there is a large tent area for covered seating. There are lots of shady private areas for jamming before and after the concert so folks can bring their instruments and share some tunes and licks.

7. Maker Faire
Robots, interactive art, flying machines, and so much to do and see –KID Museum, a new children’s
museum serving the Washington, D.C. area, is hosting Maker Faire Silver Spring on Sunday, September 20th at Veteran’s Plaza and the Silver Spring Civic Building in Silver Spring, from 12:00-5:00p.m.
A Maker Faire features family activities and innovative projects created by inventors, hackers, crafters, artists, and do-it-yourselfers of all kinds. The festival demonstrates creative and unusual projects and pursuits to encourage attendees to explore their own curiosity and to make something new and different.

The Takoma Park Folk Festival is a free annual festival featuring music and dance from around the world on six stages in Takoma Park, Maryland. From old-time fiddle and bluegrass to acoustic folk-rock to Afro-Latin fusion, performers range from well-seasoned stage veterans to youngsters on stage for the first time. The festival also includes dance workshops, children’s activities, a crafts show and ethnic food from around the world.
