7 Events to Check Out This Weekend: June 2-4

Hard to believe, but it’s June already. That’s right – we’re officially halfway through 2017! As you let that sink in, don’t worry. There’s still plenty of time to make this a memorable year, especially now that summer’s here.

And we have plenty of events and festivals going on this weekend in Montgomery County to help you start the month off right. Here’s your weekend round up for June 2-4, 2017!

Local Artist Showcase

Enjoy an enriching evening of undiscovered, local talent. The Chesapeake Framing Company in Gaithersburg has compiled a group of phenomenal local artists, whose styles range from classic to abstract. Mediums to be featured include photography, paintings and etchings.

Takoma Truckgarten

Taste multiple offerings from local breweries, plus food trucks and live music! 10 local breweries are registered to participate. Tasting size = 4 oz. pour. Each brewery will bring multiple beers. Dogs are welcome too! Go to the event website to get your tasting ticket and don’t forget to bring your ID. If you like what you taste, then head over to our blog to learn more about the local brewery and craft beer scene in Montgomery County.

Strawberry Festival

Sandy Spring Museum is hosting its 36th Annual Strawberry Festival! This event has grown to over 6,000 attendees and is something you won’t want to miss! Taking place throughout the museum’s 7 acres along Route 108, the event features live music and entertainment, food trucks, a beer garden, and activities for children of all ages.

Imagination Bethesda

Imagination Bethesda will host 20 local businesses and arts organizations that will provide a variety of hands-on arts and craft activities to entertain and energize kids of all ages. The festival will also feature face painters, balloonists, a stilt-walker, free giveaways and more. Imagination Bethesda is a FREE event produced by the Bethesda Urban Partnership and is sponsored by Bethesda Magazine, MIX 107.3 FM and Washington Parent. The following restaurants will be participating: Gusto Italian Grill, Mamma Lucia, Mussel Bar and Smoothie King.

Washington Folk Festival

This weekend marks the 37th Annual Washington Folk Festival. Hosted by the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, the festival showcases the diversity of traditional music in the Washington area. All musicians, storytellers, dancers and craftspeople live in the greater Washington metropolitan area and volunteer their talents to put on a first class festival of national renown. With performances representing cultures from around the world as well as around the country, it is your chance to learn more about the diverse folk community in the area.

Taste of Wheaton

Taste of Wheaton highlights the deliciously diverse restaurants in downtown Wheaton. The event includes food samples from 15 of downtown Wheaton’s best restaurants at prices ranging from $1 to $5 per “taste,” a beer and wine garden, live music and dance performances, kids’ rides, face painting, balloon sculptures and caricature drawings.

WHEN: Sunday, June 4, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
WHERE: Wheaton Triangle at the corner of Grandview Avenue and Reedie Drive in downtown Wheaton (one block north of the Wheaton Metro station)

Feria De Sevilla

The Centro Español de Washington, D.C., is bringing a taste of Spain to Strathmore. This free flamenco festival will make you feel like you’re at the fairgrounds of Sevilla, the capital of southern Spain’s Andalusia region. Listen to live flamenco beats, watch the intricate foot and arm work of passionate flamenco dancers and taste a variety of delicious Spanish tapas. There will be performers on stage throughout the day and a variety of food tents.
