Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Tribute and Celebration

The Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will be hosting its Annual Martin Luther King, Jr Birthday Tribute and Celebration. This tribute at the Music Center at Strathmore celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s life through dramatic readings, musical and dance performances. A Visual Arts display from students interpreting what their dreams are for the future will be presented.

This will be a very special program because it’s the first time in many years the holiday falls on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. actual birthdate. Includes a choral performance by the Civil Rights iconic Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir. The choir is the current embodiment of the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights Choir, formed in 1959 at the direction of Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth to offer music and inspiration at the mass meetings of the Birmingham Civil Rights Movement and the Sixteen Street Baptist Church. Several original members remain active in the choir today.

This family-friendly event is free to attend. Free tickets are available the day of the celebration only on Monday, January 15 in the Music Center foyer beginning at 2:30 p.m. One (1) ticket per person and general admission seating. Seating will begin at 3:00 p.m. Come early and get the best seating.
