Inauguration Visitor Information
Traveling to the National Mall
- Red Line trains will begin operation at 4:00 am and run through midnight on January 20th.
- Visitors can easily walk to the National Mall from Metro Station, Gallery Place, or L’Enfant Plaza stop.
- If you’re utilizing rideshare apps like Uber, areas in D.C. will be geofenced for easy drop-off and pick-up.
Attending Inauguration
For visitors who have tickets to the swearing-in ceremony and need a timeline for the day’s events:
- Security screenings begin at 6:00 am (ticketed event only)
- Live music will begin at 9:30 am
- Opening remarks begin at 11:00 am
For those who do not have tickets, digital screens will be positioned along the National Mall where you can watch the proceedings with thousands of other spectators. Food vendors and additional portable toilets will be available on the National Mall.
The Presidential Inaugural Parade
Attendees can view the parade beginning on 3rd Street and Pennslyvania Avenue as the presidential procession heads to the White House. The parade will begin at 2:30 pm on Inauguration Day and will last 60-90 minutes.

WMATA: Temporary Bus Detours and Station Closures on Inauguration Day
- Buses will detour daily due to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration starting on Saturday, January 18, 2025 – January 21, 2025. If you are traveling to Washington D.C., please allow for additional travel time and avoid the area if possible.
Inauguration Day Public Safety Map
The United States Secret Service has released a Public Safety Overview Map which includes pedestrian checkpoints, road closures, vehicle screening zones, and pedestrian-restricted zones. Please be aware that this map is subject to change based on updates from local and federal officials between now and the Inauguration.
