250 years ago we took up arms against our King and mother country in order to form a new democratic nation. That year also, at the first meeting of the new Maryland legislature, Dr. Wooton was elected speaker and proposed that lower Frederick County be renamed for the slain hero General Richard Montgomery. Who were our local heroes? Who fought for our freedom? Who governed our little County and who defended it during the war? What privations were inflicted on those at home? Who were Loyalists and who were Tories? The event is in person only and is free.
