The Latvian Museum is presenting SIEGE OF RIGA 1991, a program describing the defense of the capital of Latvia against the Soviet military. People from throughout the country brought their tractors, trucks and erected barricades to keep the military forces from occupying the city. The effort in January 1991 led to the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Latvia was once again a free and sovereign nation.
Come hear Dainis Ivans, the leader of the Popular Front, who was instrumental in regaining that freedom. Other eyewitnesses will speak about their experiences at that time.
