Have you ever wondered how to get from Rockville to Bethesda by bike?
There are several ways and this loop will show you two of those ways. We’ll do a 21 mile loop from Rockville to Bethesda and return starting from the Rockville Metro East parking lot. The route will include cycling on Veirs Mill Rd, Beach Drive and Old Georgetown Rd. Even though Veirs Mill has a large shoulder and Old Georgetown Rd has a protected bike lane, there will be traffic and you must be comfortable riding with cars. A portion of Beach Dr from Knowles Ave to Cedar Lane is car-free on Sunday, but the rest of it does not have a shoulder. We will also cycle on neighborhood roads. This is a hilly ride. The steepest ascent is 5.1%. You will use your gears.
This is a social ride. No rider will be left behind. However, we expect riders to maintain a 9-10 mph pace and there are hills. We will stop in Bethesda for refreshments. At the end of the ride, we can also stop in Rockville Town Center for refreshments. We expect to return to Rockville around 2 pm. If it is uncomfortably hot or you are too tired, you can easily return to Rockville by using the Metro. The route map is located here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50077605
