You are invited to join the Rockville Science Center on Zoom for our monthly lecture series, Rockville Science Tuesday. This month we will chat with the author of The Green Nuclear Option, William Needham. From a history of nuclear power’s beginnings with the Manhattan Project through detailed accounts of the accidents at Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima, Needham does not shy from the ugly side of nuclear power. He also addresses the environmental community’s dismissal of nuclear reactors as dangerous and dirty. Needham explains what has been done to prevent recurrence and makes a financial case for nuclear energy. Needham concludes his book with hope that proven nuclear technology can bridge the gap to a much-reduced fossil fuel future. Our speaker: William Needham is a nuclear engineer and graduate of MIT and Duke University. He is also an advocate for the Sierra Club, a Maryland Master Naturalist and past president of the Mycological Association of Washington DC. His latest book is The Green Nuclear Option.
