One of the hottest acts in Stride Piano around the world is Tom Roberts, who is a master of all early jazz styles including Ragtime, Boogie Woogie, New Orleans jazz and Harlem Style piano and will be with us exploring the early origins of Harlem Stride Piano. This Genre was based on ragtime but incorporates the techniques of European pianists and continues to influence stride pianist today. Explore the original composers of “Harlem Stride Piano” who were all born in the latter part of the 19th century along the Eastern Seaboard but all settled in the hub of “black culture”- Harlem.
The producer of the Potomac River Jazz Club Jazz series has enlisted Tom Roberts, one of the premier exponents of this early jazz piano known as “Stride Piano” for our February 10th Jazz Zoom.
