Showcasing the high-energy, blues-based style of barrelhouse piano that originated in the early 20th century, characterized by a driving left-hand rhythm and syncopated melodies. Boogie-woogie is an early form of jazz with wild, improvised piano, and an accent two-beat rhythm. You’ll hear recordings directly from rare original 78’s, including mint condition Paramount records. Tom Roberts is acknowledged as the “crème de la crème” of early jazz piano, globally renowned having performed at the International Stride Summit in Zurich and multiple appearances with the world-renowned Dick Hyman and many others for decades.
