Discover insights into Ella Fitzgerald you may not have known such as her ability to scat- taking the innovation from Louis Armstrong. We’ll hear from Dr. John Edward Hasse, author and Curator Emeritus of American Music at the Smithsonian Institution. Dr Hasse uses films and video clips, rare photos – rare footage of Frank Sinatra, count Basie, and Duke Ellington. You’ll learn about and hear some of Ella’s moving ballads and her striking jazz performances. You’ll learn about her personality, her trusting way she welcomed busloads of tourists into her Beverly Hills home, and about Marilyn Monroe befriending her. Dr. Hasses shares his memories of meeting Ella at the Smithsonian while securing her archive of memorabilia for the Smithsonian. Don’t miss this one!
