Take a self guided tour of the 40-acre historic farm setting inside Seneca Creek State Park in an open-air format. You move at your own pace through different activity stations across the grounds.

Button Farm Living History Center is Maryland’s only living history center depicting 19th-century plantation life and the stories of the Underground Railroad. Their goal was to recreate an authentic 19th-century farm including a log cabin, slave quarter, heritage breeds, heirloom crops, and artisan crafts and skills.

Heritage Days Event Highlights:

• Walk through outdoor historic farm areas, including reconstructed and preserved 19th-century farm buildings and outbuildings
• Explore an heirloom garden showcasing crops and farming practices from the 1800s
• Learn about enslaved life in Maryland through interpretive exhibits and storytelling
• Discover the history of self-emancipation and the Underground Railroad in the region
• View historic landscape features, including areas associated with enslaved burial grounds and reflection spaces
• Experience occasional live demonstrations such as historic farming techniques and traditional crafts.
