Join us for a hands-on series of 6 classes on Fridays, 5:00 – 6:30 PM, (November 15-December 20) where you’ll learn the principles of engineering design and the basics of 3D design and printing. Get ready to bring your ideas to life in three dimensions.
Class outline:
Week 1: Accessing TinkerCAD – Navigating the 3d workspace – Placing, moving, and resizing basic shapes – Grouping and combining shapes – Creating holes in shapes.
Challenge: Create a House
Week 2: Review of students’ work and how to improve and add complexity.
Week 3: Learn about the principles of Engineering Design to create and 3d print a balloon-powered car.
Challenge: 3D design a balloon-powered car.
Week 4: Review and continue refining the model.
Apply the Engineering Design Process to improve the design of the car.
Week 5: Students continue to use the engineering design process to improve the design of their car before 3D printing it.
Week 6: The course concludes with a class on 3d printing. What is it? How does it work? What it can and can’t do? How to turn the 3d model into a real-life object.
By the end of the course, each student will 3D print their own design car to take home.
Instructor: Kyle Kosinski is experienced in 3D design and 3D printing with a variety of different materials including Carbon fiber.
