Button Farm Living History Center is Maryland’s only living history center depicting 19th-century plantation life and the stories of the Underground Railroad. Their goal was to recreate an authentic 19th-century farm including a log cabin, slave quarter, heritage breeds, heirloom crops, and artisan crafts and skills.
There are a variety of tours offered each one chronicling different experiences enslaved people encountered during the 19th-century. Some of the tours available are Beyond the Big House, Flight to Freedom Experience, Button Farm Almanac, Underground Railroad Tours, and Speakers Bureau. Aside from interactive activities, camping is also available on the farm for small groups of up to twelve people, making it the perfect overnight learning experience for families.
Open annually from April to November for experiential programs, tours, recreation and events.
