Join the City of Rockville for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the installation of a new Civil War Trails site in Rockville.
The sign, installed through a partnership with Civil War Trails, Inc., tells the story of Zedekiah Thompson, a formerly enslaved person in Rockville who self-emancipated and went on to serve in the 1st United States Colored Troops. This is the first CWT amenity in Montgomery County to honor the contribution of an African American during the Civil War. Additional information on Zedekiah Thompson and the sign can be found in Rockville Reports.
The ceremony will be held outdoors, at the location of the sign, which is the southeast corner of the intersection of N. Washington Street and Wood Lane (map). The ceremony is walking distance from the Rockville Metro Station. Parking is available immediately adjacent to the site in “Garage C.”
