Flutist Dita Krenberga is celebrated as one of Latvia’s foremost soloists, a sensitive chamber musician, and a distinguished orchestral artist. She studied under Imants Sneibis at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and further honed her craft with the renowned flutist James Galway. His recommendation led her to receive the Leonard Bernstein Fellowship, enabling her to study at the Tanglewood Institute with the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1989 to 1990. There, she worked with Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Jeffrey Tate, and Yo-Yo Ma. Her achievements earned her the Gustav Golden Award.
Krenberga has also studied with distinguished flute professors including Aurèle Nicolet, William Bennett, and Alain Marion. She has garnered top honors in numerous prestigious competitions, including 1st prize and a special award as the youngest participant at “Concertino Praha-80,” the Grand Prix and gold medal at the 34th International Maria Canals Competition in Spain (1988), the “Prague Spring” competition in 1991, and a diploma at the 48th CIEM International Music Competition in Geneva, Switzerland.
In recognition of her musical contributions, she received the Grand Latvian Music Award in 2000 and was honored with the Order of the Three Stars in 2009. She regularly performs both in Latvia and internationally, having graced stages in Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, and Japan. From 2006 to 2018, she served as the principal flutist of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. As a soloist, Krenberga has performed with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Rīgas Kamermūziķi chamber orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the New Chamber Orchestra, The London Mozart Players, the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, the Swedish Musicae Vitae Chamber Orchestra, and others.
Dita Krenberga has also recorded several albums and appeared in multiple Latvian films.
Pianist Paulo Steinberg is an internationally recognized pianist, performing both as a soloist and collaborative artist across the U.S., Canada, South America, and Europe. Born in Brazil from Latvian parents, he has graced prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Theatro Municipal de São Paulo. Dr. Steinberg is also a sought-after adjudicator, master class instructor, and lecturer, often traveling for performances and educational projects worldwide. His summer engagements include teaching at the Saarburg Chamber Music Summer Festival in Germany, alongside various projects in Europe, Brazil, and Canada.
In 2024, as part of his educational leave project, Dr. Steinberg lived in Latvia for three months, immersing himself in the Latvian language, culture, and music. This experience significantly influenced his research and artistic practice, deepening his appreciation for Latvian piano solo and chamber music.
Dr. Steinberg holds degrees in Piano Performance from Conservatório “Carlos Gomes” and Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil, as well as graduate degrees from Arizona State University (M.M.) and Indiana University (D.M.). His principal teachers include Carlos Yansen, Paulo Gori, Gilberto Tinetti, and Evelyne Brancart.
Steinberg has served in several leadership roles, including as vice-president of the Harrisonburg Music Teachers Association and president of the Virginia Music Teachers Association. He is currently Co-chair of Music in Every Home, which provides scholarships for underrepresented piano and guitar students.
