Celebrate the New Year with Maryland’s annual First Day Hike! Enjoy a self-guided, 3.7-mile loop hike along the Lakeshore Trail, featuring scenic winter views and chances to spot local wildlife.

Stop by our Welcome Table near the Recycled Tire Playground to pick up a map, explore with field guides and scavenger hunt activities, or test your knowledge with trivia games! Don’t forget to grab your “I Hiked 2025” sticker and take a photo at our selfie station to commemorate your adventure and warm up with some coffee and hot chocolate, served as supplies last by the Friends of Seneca Creek State Park.

Please wear comfortable hiking shoes, dress appropriately for the weather, and bring plenty of drinking water.
