Weekend Round Up for April 28-30

Hold on tight, everyone. The weekend is almost here! And if you’ve been feeling gloomy and chilly from this week’s April showers, you’ll be happy to hear you can put the umbrella away this weekend.
We’ll be expecting warmer temperatures too – perfect for checking out some of these local events:

Catch a Show

Guys & Dolls Junior

Guys and Dolls Junior

This is the last weekend to see the Art Barn’s production of Guys and Dolls Junior. Bustling with gamblers, gangsters and sassy showgirls, Guys and Dolls Junior celebrates Broadway’s golden era with one of the greatest scores ever written for the musical stage. Cost: $15/$12 Youth (14 and under). Tickets are available here.

Explore the Outdoors

Lake Hike

Seneca Creek State Park is hosting a Lake Hike, suitable for explorers of all ages. Starting at the park’s Boat Center, trekkers will take a 3.7 mile hike with a park naturalist to see what types of creatures can be found in and around the lake. Bring a camera for some great photo opportunities! Park entrance fees apply ($3/person, $5/person for out-of-state residents). Click here for more event information.

Spring Migration Bird Walk

Seneca Creek State Park is also hosting a free bird walk this weekend for adults and kids ages 10 and up. Meet at the Park Office and join an experienced birder on a walk to see and learn about migrating birds. Spring is a great chance to see exceptionally colored Wood Warblers and other song birds on their annual northward journey. Bring along a pair of binoculars if you have them.

Grow it Eat It Maryland

Grow It Eat It (GIEI) Spring Event

Come celebrate spring at the Grow It Eat It (GIEI) Spring Event, sponsored by the Montgomery County Master Gardener program of University of Maryland Extension. Activities for both adults and children will provide gardening information, including learning ways to grow your own food. Participants can visit the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, meet with Master Gardener consultants to discuss gardening plans, attend demonstrations, pick up a free composting bin, and shop from the variety of vendors who will be selling spring garden items. Classes are available for adults and children (some require pre-registration and a fee). Most parts of the event are free.

Take in the Arts

Art Hop 2017

Art Hop Takoma

A full weekend of art and live performances are planned in Takoma for the 9th annual Art Hop arts fest. The work of over 70 artists will be installed inside the shops, restaurants, galleries and cafes of Takoma. Art includes painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, jewelry, pottery, mosaic and more. Live outdoor music and dance performances are planned all weekend at the Takoma Park Gazebo, 7035 Carroll Avenue. Grab an Art Hop Map from any of the participating businesses (Look for the Art Hop Stop sign) or at the Art Hop Info Booth at the Takoma Park Gazebo, and explore art at your own pace while taking in “Meet-the-Artist” receptions and live performances all weekend.

Kentlands Mansion

Spring Market 2017

The Kentlands Mansion is hosting its very first Spring Market. Come and shop local Montgomery County businesses and designers. As Mother’s Day is just around the corner, you can find unique presents for mom and sip some wine from a local award-winning winery at the same time!
