Watching movies on a large screen outdoors has become a popular summer activity in Montgomery County, Maryland. There are several outdoor movie festivals throughout the county. Most of the movies are free and offer an excellent opportunity for families to enjoy some time together under the stars.
Comcast Outdoor Film Festival: Rockville, MD
Comcast Outdoor Film Festival, the country’s original outdoor film festival, returns to the Strathmore Campus. The free event benefits NIH Children’s Charities. Picnic blankets, low beach chairs, and small coolers are welcome. Come early for pre-show activities and grab dinner from Ridgewell’s summer grill.

Movies in the Parks: Rockville, MD
Enjoy Rockville’s free outdoor movies in the parks on the big screen each Wednesday, August 1 through August 22. Bring chairs, blankets, food and drinks and enjoy four different movies at four different neighborhood parks throughout the city. Movies begin at dusk (approximately 8 p.m.). All movies are free. Whalen Commons Summer Movie Series: Poolesville, MD
Whalen Commons Summer Movie Series screens films at 19701 Fisher Ave, Poolesville. Bring your family and friends. Picnic blankets or chairs are recommended for comfortable viewing under the stars. Admission is free and popcorn is available to purchase! Showtime is 8:30p.m.

Bethesda Outdoor Movies: Bethesda, MD
Enjoy five nights of blockbuster hits at Downtown Bethesda’s 14th Annual Outdoor Movie Series! Showtimes begin at 9pm at the corner of Norfolk and Auburn Avenues. A limited number of chairs will be provided, and attendees are invited to bring their own lawn chairs. Admission is free!

Silver Screens on Veterans Plaza: Silver Spring, MD
AFI Silver is excited to announce the launch of a free outdoor film series in downtown Silver Spring! Silver Screens is presented by AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center and Montgomery County Councilmember Tom Hucker, with support from the Montgomery County Department of Recreation and the Silver Spring Jazz Festival.
