Holiday Tree Lighting Celebrations

Holiday tree lighting celebrations are a great way to kick off the holiday season with friends and family! Here is a schedule of tree lighting ceremonies happening around Montgomery County:

Re-Imagining the Holidays

Fountain Plaza at Downtown Silver Spring | November 15 @ 6 PM silver-spring-christmas-tree1
Karl Unnasch, an internationally acclaimed public and architectural artist, will create a 35’ tree comprised of chimes, bells, pinwheels and ribbons for Downtown Silver Spring’s third annual ‘Re-Imagining the Holidays’ public art installation.
Named Silver Symphony, the holiday art installation will be alive with sound and motion. For the first time, guests will be able to interact with and ‘play’ the Downtown Silver Spring tree through a series of levers. The interactive installation will be unveiled on November 15, 2014 during the ‘Re-Imagining the Holidays’ event, and will remain on display for approximately ten weeks on the fountain plaza. The ‘Re-Imagining the Holidays’ project has a strong altruistic component, and aims to give back to the local community by partnering with non-profit organizations.

Downtown Silver Spring’s 2013 award-winning toy tree, Playtime Jubilee, attracted national attention last year with an appearance on the TODAY Show.

      Hi Danielle,
We don’t organize the events, we help promote them. You can contact individual communities about their events.

So much for “free parking during the tree lighting event” in Rockville last night. Since the duration of the event wasn’t specified, we assumed parking was free the entire evening – or at least until Santa stopped doing pictures. But when our family got to our car (parked one block from where the road was closed off, so I figured it was within the area of “free parking”) I found a $40 parking ticket because our meter expired. I would have fed the meter except for the free parking info on this website.
