Light Festivals

Garden of Lights at Brookside Gardens

Make a new holiday tradition at the Garden of Lights Walk Through Holiday Light Display. Step into a magical winter wonderland illuminated with more than one million dazzling colorful lights shaped into hand-crafted, original art forms of flowers, animals and other natural elements. Stroll from garden to garden enjoying twinkling tree forms, fountains, sparkling snowflakes overhead and more.

When: November 25, 2016 – January 1, 2017 (Open every night except December 24 & 25)

Price: $25 per car/van (Sunday-Thursday) | $30 per car/van (Friday-Saturday)

Winter Lights Festival at Seneca Creek State Park

Winter Lights is a magical Christmas light display at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, Maryland. See more than 350 illuminated displays and along a 3.5-mile drive through the park. Driving through the enchanted forest setting, you will experience an array of displays that light up the night. Click here for more information

Festival of Lights at the Washington, D.C. Temple

The Washington, DC Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints, also known as the Mormon Temple, is open to all during the Christmas season. This impressive church and its surrounding grounds shine brightly with more than 650,000 lightssparkling Christmas lights. Beginning December 1st, the Festival features free performances nightly in the comfortable, state-of-the-art theater located in the Visitors’ Center. A different performing artist or group is showcased each night, including bell ensembles, choirs, orchestras, and more! Each performance is presented twice nightly.

When: December 1, 2016 – January 1, 2017

Bethesda’s Winter Wonderland

The Hip Hop Nutcracker

A holiday mash-up for the whole family, The Hip Hop Nutcrackerre-imagines Tchaikovsky’s classic score through explosive hip-hop choreography. A dozen all-star dancers, an on-stage DJ, and an electric violinist bring the traditional Nutcracker story to life in contemporary New York City.

Moscow Ballet Presents: The Great Russian Nutcracker

The Positivi-Tree, by internationally acclaimed, award-winning artists Jon Taylor and Karl Unnasch, is an impressive 35-foot public art installation, featuring hundreds of illuminated and multi-colored umbrellas.

Holiday Tree in Rockville Town Square


The new holiday tree at Rockville Town Square features a light and music show at the start of every hour.

Kick off the holiday season with a family friendly celebration in Downtown Silver Spring. The only Thanksgiving Day Parade in Maryland takes place the Saturday before Thanksgiving in Downtown Silver Spring.

Holiday Tree Lighting Celebrations are a great way to kick off the holiday season with friends and family! Most tree lighting celebrations happen throughout November.

The Holiday Sugarloaf Crafts Festival is held the weekend before Thanksgiving at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Whether you’re shopping for an early Christmas gift or looking to add something new to your collection, you’ll find something to match any interest and budget.
