The 18th annual Bethesda Literary Festival will host an array of local and national authors, journalists and poets, as well as writing contests and poetry contests.
In a weekend that will include more than 20 entertaining events, the Bethesda Literary Festival presents fascinating literary personalities who will read their work, talk about their craft and take part in discussions with other writers and audience members. All the events are free and are held throughout downtown Bethesda.

The craft festival features interactive demonstrations with master craftspeople. Many of the talented artists at the show will introduce visitors to how they create their art; demonstrations include wheel thrown pottery, wood turning and metal spinning. The show also features live music. It’s the perfect accompaniment for browsing and relaxing. Middle Earth’s costume storytelling returns, providing popular children’s entertainment.

The 19th Annual Paws in the Park dog walk and festival is a signature special event of the Montgomery County Humane Society, held in partnership with the City of Gaithersburg. One of the largest dog walks in the DC area, it raises funds to help homeless and abandoned animals throughout Montgomery County. The Festival will feature a 1K dog walk at 2 p.m. and a variety of activities for children, including a moon bounce, contests and other activities for dogs and their owners. There will be contests for pet-owner look-alike, best doggie trick, best dog kisser, a “musical sit” competition, and more, with prizes awarded in most categories for first, second and third place finishes.

Declared as the International Day of the Book by UNESCO in 1995, this celebration of books and literature draws its inspiration from a Catalan tradition, the Festival of the Rose. This street festival, held rain or shine, celebrates the International Day of the Book with over 100 local authors, children’s authors, poets, literary and community organizations set up along three blocks of Howard and Armory Avenues. Live music in several locations, cookbook demos, children’s stage, poetry readings, food trucks, and special guest speakers add to an afternoon of family friendly activities and entertainment.

The Takoma commercial district (DC and MD) will once again transform into a lively arts district showcasing the talents of both emerging and established visual artists and welcome visitors to an eclectic mix of local businesses. You’ll find painting, photography, mixed media, assemblage, fiber art, jewelry, glass, pottery, sculpture and more available for sale at a variety of price points. Take in one of the free performances at the Takoma gazebo, enjoy an artist talk, or chat with participating artists and visitors over food and drink at artist receptions.
