Discover Montgomery County

East County

In colonial times, the eastern portion of the county, comprising of about 100 inhabitants, was referred to as the Patuxent Hundred and later the Eastern Branch Hundred. Today, residents and visitors can experience the living interpretation of bygone days at The National Capital Trolley Museum in Colesville. Take a ride into the woods as Maryland would have looked more than 100 years ago when the first electrical street cars went out beyond Washington D.C. city limits. Savor in the tropical tastes of grandma’s kitchen at Cuba de Ayer. The fan favorites are the Ropa Vieja (shredded beef in a Cuban tomato sauce) and tres leches cake. And enjoy hiking along the Northwest Branch Park Trails and enjoy the green scenery in the summer and the beautiful fall foliage.
